What and why
I’m Suzie Devey, an artist with a passion for printmaking based in North Yorkshire. My practice begins with paying attention. I'm interested in the traces people leave behind and what they can tell us when we take the time to notice them. These small discoveries create a symbiotic process:.. the traces shape the work and the work gives those discoveries new life. Often taking unexpected forms, I work across installation, print and public art so that my work encourages people to encounter familiar things differently.
Whether it’s a giant shell filled with imagined worlds, a railway waggon carved with the unheard voices of women, a pop-up print studio in a phone box, or the shortest of stories on road signs - I make art that invites people to be part of it. I want my work to instil curiosity, to feel like a conversation and to stir emotion.
I'm interested in creating moments where people stop and look again, and that encourages people's emotions or actions to be part of the work.
